In gaming, prestige is a progression system built around a deliberate sacrifice: once you hit the maximum level, you can choose to wipe your progress, levels, unlocks, sometimes stats and loadouts, and start over from level one. In exchange, you get a special badge, icon, or title showing your prestige level, which tracks how many times you've done the reset.
The whole point is to give endgame players something to chase after they've run out of normal progression, and to give them a visible way to flex their dedication.
In Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, for example, you hit level 55, then prestige through the Barracks menu, the game warns you that your loadouts, K/D stats, level unlocks, and player level will all reset, and you have to hold a button to confirm.
